The 2025 Proof Sovereign Collection
The 2025 proof sovereign range will feature the sovereign in 3 different guises, the centre piece coins marking 200 years of the Hanoverian Royal Arms' first appearance on The Sovereign. Jean Baptiste Merlen's design will feature on the reverse of individual proof sovereigns, 3 and 5 coin sets. The Hanoverian arms within the centre of the design only appeared on the sovereign up to 1837, Queen Victoria being a woman was not entitled to the Hanoverian throne, and her coins would only show the arms of the 4 home nations.
The 2025 St George & Dragon Reverse Proof Sovereign
Only available in single format a small number of 2025 dated proof sovereigns featuring Pistrucci's classic St. George & Dragon design will be available alongside the main Royal Arms issue. The Royal Mint have also stated that 2025 is to be the last year of the rose gold sovereign, and that they will be produced in yellow gold only from 2026. The Royal Arms sovereigns will also be available in piedfort variety, along with a matt finish uncirculated five sovereign piece.
The 2025 St George & Dragon Reverse Proof Silver Sovereigns
In addition to the gold range, this years proof sovereigns will be joined by the first sovereigns to be struck in silver. The reverse featuring Pistrucci's classic St. George & Dragon design will be available in 2 formats. The premium edition which carries a privy mark depicting a crowned shield embossed with the number 1825 to mark the 200th anniversary of the Hanoverian Arms. The standard coin will again be of the same proof finish without privy mark. Both editions will be 7.988 grams, 0.999 fine silver, with a diameter of 22.05mm.
