2023 King Charles III 75 Years of the Windrush Generation 50p Gold Proof
It is 75 years since the HMT Empire Windrush docked in Tilbury, Essex, on 22 June 1948, carrying passengers from the Caribbean to fill labour shortages in the UK. The Royal Mint have released this special 50p as a tribute to the many British Caribbean and Commonwealth citizens.
Obverse by Martin Jennings features the first portrait of King Charles III with the inscription “· CHARLES III · D · G · REX F · D · 50 PENCE · The reverse features a design by multidisciplinary artist Valda Jackson.
