2025 King Charles III 'Royal Arms' Brilliant Uncirculated 5 Sovereign Piece
We are delighted to be able to offer a limited number of Brilliant Uncirculated 5 Sovereign Pieces for sale. The new 2025 proof sovereigns feature the Royal Arms design by Jean Baptiste Merlen which includes the Hanoverian Arms in the centre that first appeared on the sovereign in 1825. The Arms of the house of Hanover only appeared on the sovereign between the years of 1825 - 1837, Queen Victoria being a female was not entitled to the throne of Hanover and later shield reverse sovereigns would only include the arms of the 4 home nations.
The obverse carries the portrait of King Charles III by Martin Jennings with the legend : 'CHARLES III · DEI · GRA · REX · FID · DEF' '2025' in Latin this translates to “King Charles III, reigning by the Grace of God, Defender of the Faith,”. This is only the second time the date has been included on the obverse of the sovereign since 1874.
