DAVID HENRY FITZROY
SOMERSET (1980-1988)
(The 26th Chief Cashier)
David Somerset was born on 19th June 1930. He was
educated at Wellington College and Peterhouse, Cambridge. He joined
the Bank in 1952 and from 1959-62 was seconded as personal assistant
to the Managing Director of the IMF On his return he became private
secretary to the Governor, Lord Cromer. Nicknamed ‘Boomer’, he was
appointed Deputy Chief Cashier in 1973 and was promoted to Chief
Cashier on 1st March 1980. He remained in office until his retirement
on 28th February 1988.
